Bass Recorder Adventure

I've just ordered four different types of bass recorder to try, after being convinced that I would like the Paetzold, I have had a re-think and gone for the two traditional styles of hook and knick basses. Think I'll have a fun week of trying them out.

Last Friday and Sunday I had two Horses Brawl gigs and got to try out my new mini cardiod mic (I don't know what that means!) and was so pleased that I got it. It's going to be brilliant for recorder amplification (as well as fiddle) and means that I do not need to be glued to a limited performance space near a mic stand any more. My dream would be to buy one for fiddle and recorder, but there's not enough money in the pot at this stage for such extravagance. I do feel very lucky to have one though.

Next week I have no gigs and no teaching so I am planning to shut myself in my music room with some fragments of ideas, like a mini practice residency. So we will see what happens.

Musical possibilities are all quite interesting and up in the air at the moment, which is good and also scary as I usually feel that I know what I'm going to be doing... a really blank canvass awaits.
